July-Oct 2023 Update

How it’s going…

I don’t think I’m too far out there in thinking that people have certain expectations when it comes to newsletters, and the number one thing they expect might not be something I’m the greatest at.

Consistency.

There’s this expectation that people post on a schedule they stick to rain or shine, whether they have something to share or not, but I. Just. Can’t. Do. It.

People are overwhelmed. I’m overwhelmed. My inbox is flooded. I can barely keep up. And, if you’re anything like me, you might have more than one email. One that’s semi-professional and one that might as well be called spam@junk.com.

There are other authors/people out there who live their lives online. I’ve seen them. I may even follow a few of them. It doesn’t mean I’m about to join their ranks. If I tried to, it would be awkward for everyone.

I’m not that kind of person. Instead, I’m the kind of person who shares when I have something to share. I don’t live my life for posts to Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. (Don’t get me started on TikTok. I enjoy it. I really do. But I’m not doing it. Not now. Not ever. I’m not ruling out making videos, but if I do make one, it’s going to end up on another platforms.) If I remember to take a picture of the last book I read, I’m doing good.

So here’s what to expect: when I have news, there’ll be a letter.

Having said all that, I have news. Here’s a letter.

I won the Bronze for Best of Madison Local Author! Look, people actually had to go and vote. For me! I thought getting nominated was huge. (There are some great authors in the Madison area.) But to actually place? Are you kidding me? Mind blown.

In other news, I was sad to learn I wouldn’t have a booth at a local holiday arts and crafts fair here in town that a friend told me about. BUT WAIT. What’s this? They had a cancelation and I got in! This coming Saturday November 11th I’ll be at the Annual Holiday Arts & Crafts Fair in Verona form 9-3. I’m excited to meet people and find out what they’re reading and hopefully sneak in a little shopping. What? It’s November. I start holiday shopping in October.

That’s it. That’s my big news. When I have more, you’ll be the first to know in detail about what’s going on. I’m still on Facebook and will share events and things there. I’m still on Twitter, but I mostly live-tweet about Masterpiece on PBS with my Masterpeeps. And, for those of you keeping track, I’m still on Instagram, where I share pics of craft projects I’m in the middle of, nature, and books I’ve read.

So, please, if you want to keep in touch consider subscribing to my Substack at https://anamberauthor.substack.com/?r=2bde7r&utm_campaign=pub-share-checklist
