I had the following conversation with my mother over the phone a couple of weeks ago.
Mom: Okay, I’m just going to come out and say it.
Me: Oh, God, what?
Mom: I found your blog.
Mom: I don’t even know how I found it, but I did.
Me: Okay. Well, I mean, I put it on facebook.
Mom: I haven’t followed you or anything. I didn’t want you to know it was me so you could block me or something.
Mom: What surprises me is I like it–laughter–keep it up.
I really wasn’t trying to hide my blog from prying eyes (that would be weird) but it did take a second for me to register what she said.
My mom found my blog.
And she read everything I wrote. She even had questions. And I had answers. I don’t write anything on my blog I wouldn’t want my mother to read, so the fact that she found it wasn’t a huge deal. Now I have a fan, but my mother’s always been a fan of mine, and not just because she’s my mom.
Of course, she can be a critic, too. I haven’t been posting quite as frequently as I would like because of being in and out of town and now some health issues, which I was explaining when I visited her recently.
Mom: Oh, yeah, well, that last one was kinda…snore.
Me: Wow. Thanks. Thanks for that.
Mom: Hey if you can’t take corrective criticism…
Me: Corrective criticism? All right. I’m writing this down.
I’m pretty sure she meant constructive, but maybe not. It’s hard to tell sometimes.
Anyway, I better get this posted so she’ll have something to read the next time she visits my website. And if she is reading this…
Hi Mom. Thanks for everything. Happy Easter. And April Fools!
