Resurrecting A Sacred Cow

It’s October! What better time could there be for resurrecting a sacred cow I thought I had laid to rest a while ago? That’s right. I am going to write about something I don’t often write about – writing and the path to publishing.

WHY?

Because Dragon Street Press will publish my YA fantasy, The Dragoneer, the beginning of next summer.

Yes, you read that correctly. I am humbled and grateful to announce that next year I will be a published author.

How did this happen? Well, let’s be clear: it hasn’t happened yet, but I’m nothing if not cautiously optimistic. I’ve signed a contract and submitted my final draft of the manuscript. It’s now in the hands of a talented editor.

If I’ve taken anything away from the process, it’s this: it never hurts to ask.

Before I queried Dragon Street Press, I did my due diligence and read their submission guidelines. They were interested in works in my genre of 75,000 words or more. Guess what? Mine fell just short of that mark – not by a lot, but short nonetheless. So I asked if I could send it along anyway. And the publisher said go ahead.

The rest is history in the making.

Stay tuned for more info, such as a cover and release date! I’m super excited to share this process, but this probably won’t turn into a blog about writing. There are already a lot of those out there who do it way better than me. Having said that, I may mention more about my process in the future than I have in the past.
